I have been working at US Department of Homeland Security full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to make a difference in a giant bureaucracy.

    Cons

Still sorting out the kinks of bringing legacy agencies under one roof, clarifying its missions and lanes in the road.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Boil down the mission to specific core tasks that serve the wider community of partners outside the federal government, and focus resources and personnel there. No need to duplicate what other agencies or DHS components are already doing.
