Pros

Large amounts of responsibility almost immediately; interesting work; challenging issues; I feel good at the end of each day knowing I helped make this country a bit safer.

Cons

Held to a much higher bar than defense attorneys (which is good because someone's freedom is at stake, but it puts my client, the United States, at a disadvantage); there are a large number of department policies that tie my hands; the compensation is a bit low for the caliber of folks that work in the department and the importance of the job.

Advice to Senior Management

Minimize the number of department policies; work to raise salaries as much as possible given the constraints of the federal system.
