I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Decent pay, good benefits, flexible schedule

    Cons

VA compensation is borderline criminal in about 8 out of 10 claims, there is no control over the claims process at all which has created an incredible backlog, efficiency is not a priority in the goverment sector, Veterans are hired simply because they are veterans and lack many of the core competencies to do the job well. VA examiners are totally incompetent and would be better labeled as "fortune tellers"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more controls to the claims process and stop hemorrhaging tax payer dollars to people filing fraudulent claims. Quality control needs to be implemented on the VHA side of the claims process. 9 times out of 10 the examiner does not review the claims folder, and states that the veterans claimed disability is as least as likely as not related to military service when much of the evidence in the claims folder states the exact opposite. VA examiners need to held more responsible in the claims process.

Okay but could be great if people were held accountable

I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good salary and benefits.
    Time off and federal holiday.
Training and development opportunities are nice.

    Cons

Lack of accountability and no follow through on several assignment that could make this a great organization to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold staff accountable. More development and preparation for leadership and supervisor roles. Just because someone has worked for the organization for several years does not mean they are qualified to be in a leadership or supervisory position.
