I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs part-time (More than a year)

Pros

It is a relaxed environment and it's an office composed of mostly Veteran employees who can relate to the Veteran clients. You're either going to be in the front office scheduling and making appointments, or you'll be a counselor for Combat Veterans. If you like helping people out, then this is a good place to work at.

Cons

There are rarely openings for a new position, but they are growing so that might have changed.

Advice to Management

Always keep the Veterans in first place.

    Pros

Work with patients and directly help veterans. Make a difference in people's lives and after a while you begin to see the changes affecting them which is great.

    Cons

Pretty low pay for the amount of work you have to do and there are very little chances to move up pay grades. It's also pretty tough to apply for more jobs within the Department because they give veterans preferential treatment (albeit understandably so).

    Advice to Management

    Pay the employees more!
