Former Employee - Biomedical Engineer in Cleveland, OH

    Pros

Very nice retirement package, good health benefits, competitive pay. While I was working there in my position the VA offered up to 5% matched contributions to the TSP retirement account. I think that is pretty generous! Starting out I also had 13 days of vacation, 13 days of sick leave, and 10 federal holidays off. A good amount of days off for a first job.

    Cons

Sometimes when someone does really poorly at a job they are just reassigned to a different job. This leads to some people who should be fired to just be bad in a different position.

    Pros

Focused on a mission; locations nation-wide; always wanting to improve performance; focused on improving technology; applies principles of kaizen to procedures; leadership investment in strategic planning.

    Cons

Significant bureaucratic challenges; budget sequestration made planning and work difficult; still overburdened by demand for services and benefits; need to leverage outside partners to achieve goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
