    Pros

Benefits are great. Good work enviroment. Feeling of satisfaction since you get a chance to help people who have given their lives to keep us safe. Financial compensation is not too bad either

    Cons

Watching some of the veterans with physical and mental issues, first hand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's find even more ways to give back and continue to hire and support our veterans

Inefficient and unproductive; sad for veterans waiting for relief

Former Employee - Rating Veteran Service Representative in Auburn, WA

I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

generally a pro-veteran attitude among staff; quick ascension in terms of salary and, sometimes, title and responsibilities; when you find a long-time ally to mentor you and advocate for you it can benefit you completely

    Cons

passive-aggressive and territorial; supervisors are legitimately less intelligent than many of their direct reports; really lackluster communication--my supervisor was very unwilling to engage in meaningful dialogue about how to improve performance of the team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be brave when communicating about inefficiencies, and own management's part in them (i.e. if there aren't enough cases to rate, then have our backs when "regional" folks start giving you grief about employee performance--say to regional folks, "We don't have cases, how can we hit numbers?"); be brave when supervising staff, rather than passive-aggressive and cloak-and-dagger like.
