I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Population served; Opportunities to relocate and transfer; Pay

    Cons

Medical professions compete against each other even though the VA promotes interdisciplinary teams; Internal transfers and promotions create incestuous and petty dynamic at some locations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop supporting culture of Draconian hierarchical Kafka-esque hellscape by not rewarding leadership for "turning a blind-eye" or "staring straight ahead."

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

VA still has good budget for training and travel. Budget constraints are less of deal compared to other agencies.

    Cons

Everything works as chaos specially in VBA central office. It comes from very top and leadership refuses to accept anything but 'yes' from their employees even if it is a wrong answer at the time. Promotion is not based on ability and strength but favoritism and longevity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trust your employees
Please get out of mindset from military and adapt to how real life works.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
