Pros

Intelligent, competent employees with a good sense of mission and where they fit. Decent salary. Some very experienced upper management professionals. Good work life balance.

Cons

Like most government agencies, filled with unnecessary and inefficient bureaucracy. Some incompetent and/or lazy employees that find themselves a corner to burrow into for the long haul. Upper management tends to be out of touch to the daily needs of mid level managers and employees. In today's political climate, employees are seen more as an enemy than as a friend to the public.

Advice to Management

More collaboration with employees. Management should be results driven rather than policy driven.

    Pros

If you ever happen to become employed by the Department of Interior just do your job.

    Cons

Don't do the above or you will lose your job.

    Advice to Management

Do not look into a mirror, you work for the people.

    Pros

Tons of leave.. more leave than you could ever use (I think I have about 400 hours right now), telework-friendly.

    Cons

No training, no opportunities for advancement due to Federal pay freeze and sequestration. Employees that do work must carry the workload for all the 'dead weight' employees that have been there for years and just come in to collect a paycheck. Work is extremely unrewarding and it is frustrating to know that ideas will go unnoticed, hard work unrewarded, etc. I don't even know where to begin...

    Advice to Management

What's the point? Nothing will ever change in Federal Government.
