I have been working at US Marine Corps part-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Working for the Marines brings me lots of pride and joy knowing I am serving my country. Great benefits and VA help in the future. Also you can go to school for free and get a little extra money for bills aswell

Cons

Long hours, deployments, and not being able to spend holidays and birthdays and wedding anniversary with the family is a huge con. But its worth it in the end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

sometimes reporting systems fail- there is emphasis on chain of command and team work, but at the end of the day its up to the individual to ensure all records are ran and ran correctly.

I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The best part is financial security and stability. You won't have to worry about your company's contract period of performance running out or being shaken by the economy. During your contract term, your job will be there come what may. Also, great opportunity to obtain a retirement pension after 20 years of service. Rated at 50% of basic pay for 20 years of service and 2.5% for each additional year over 20.

    Cons

If you are attached to a Fleet Marine Force Unit, you are very likely to deploy in support of overseas operations. Actually, you are highly encouraged and expected to do at least one FMF tour about once every 5-6 years for career progression, which is very important if you want to make a career out of the Marine Corps. Currently, Marine Corps is downsizing the force due to draw-down but with the mass exodus, could be potential for promotions where there are vacuums.
