I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Teaches discipline and good work habits that will carry on throughout the rest of your life. Great benefits if you choose not to renew your contract (Gi Bill, Veterans Benefits, Disability, ect) Great place to make life long friends / connections. Employers are more likely to hire a Veteran because of their proven work ethic and commitment. 30 days of paid vacation a year.

Cons

Strict rules and regulations, some of which may not necessarily make sense - due to Marine Corps Tradition.

I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

sense of purpose, training, education benefits, outstanding community and teamwork, pride of belonging, job security, amazing benefits, strong leadership training, opportunity for advancement

    Cons

Time away from family, low starting pay, austere conditions at times, and potentially dangerous

    Advice to Management

Retention incentives and promotion opportunity models for high tech jobs needs to be updated. Retention of the best and brightest in IT does not match the increased demand being placed on the field. The "10%" in IT are the ones that are proficient, not the other way around as most fields and it doesn't appear that senior management is aware of it.
