Current Employee - Operations Managerer in Jacksonville, NC

I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Ample opportunity to learn and grow leadership, problem solving, teamwork, administrative, and operational skills. Only requires basic education and cognitive skills to begin training. Additional training will be provided to maximize performance.

Cons

Leaders primarily use autocratic decision making, which is a benefit for traditional military operations. Autocratic leadership, however, is limited in its ability to develop professionally balanced individuals.

    Pros

Honor, Courage and Commitment; lived by these rules every day; Very structured, tight group of friends; Any decent NCO's and Staff NCO's will push you to get promoted and help ensure you have success in the Corps, that said they will NOT coddle you.

    Cons

When some decisions didn't jive, really couldn't question the validity of said decisions; Sometimes tough to get vacation time in order; Sometimes you could get a jerk on a power trip one rank higher than you...just have to work past it; Also "voluntold" opportunities are usually unpleasant.

    Pros

you will learn respect and honor and receive respect and honor when you are finished. You will receive benefits from the army post serving like they'll pay for some of your college, sometimes they will set you up for a job, health care and all that.

    Cons

you could be killed, you could be taken hostage, putting your family through the stress of hoping you'll survive, dealing with post-traumatic stress, seeing your friends die, not being near the ones you love.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your family about it, talk to recruiters but ultimately it's your life so you have to be the one to choose. Good luck
