I have been working at US Navy full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The Benefits are great(healthcare, retirement options, steady income), lasting relationships, traveling to foreign countries.

Cons

The hours are long whenever there is work that needs to be done, underways may be exciting but its still slightly depressing to be away from home and loved ones for so long. You may not always agree with your chain of command but still have to meet there expectations.

Former Employee - Missile Technician in Kings Bay, GA

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady paycheck, diverse culture, and extremely challenging. The day-to-day mission rarely changes, but the events that occur break up the monotony of a daily routine. Hard work and increased knowledge does pay off. If you don't set limits for yourself, the Navy wont limit you either.

    Cons

There is a do more with less attitude. The continual downsizing of personnel only increases the workload of Sailors. This is directly proportional to the amount of a persons work hours and inversely proportional to the time off they get.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention and listen to your junior Sailors. Don't take credit for things you didn't accomplish. After all, they are the people doing the work and making your career successful.

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of time with family (when you aren't out to sea). Clear career paths and what you need to do to exceed. Benefits and retirement are excellent.

    Cons

Moving a lot. It gets too political as you go up the ranks.
