“Surface Warfare...It's a lifestyle, not just a career”
I worked at US Navy full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Service to country, mostly safe environments (won't get shot at), great benefits like free medical / dental.
Cons – "Surface warfare officers eat their young"...sink or swim environment, tough to find a mentor, and very thin pyramid organizational structure meaning the top jobs (Commanding Officers of ships and shore stations) are few and far between. One bad fitness report can derail a career.
Advice to Senior Management – Eliminate zero defect mentality.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
