I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Time off is good and there are great medical benefits. Educational benefits are available with tuition reimbursement and grad school opportunities. If you are in technology there are a lot of opportunities. Many old timers are retiring opening the doors for new hires and mid level managers.

Cons

Pay takes a while to catch up with the private sector but does eventually. You are at the mercy of the Federal Government. The FERS retirement system could be better.

    Pros

Excellent opportunity to contribute to DOD acquisition management process. This is similar to PMP process in private industry.

    Cons

Regulatory processes tend bog down the effieicncies that can be realized in process improvement through innovative strategies in place and continuously developed in the private industry

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in parallel bench-marking with leading organization development (OD) strategies to improve workforce job satisfaction.
