I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Time off is good and there are great medical benefits. Educational benefits are available with tuition reimbursement and grad school opportunities. If you are in technology there are a lot of opportunities. Many old timers are retiring opening the doors for new hires and mid level managers.

Cons

Pay takes a while to catch up with the private sector but does eventually. You are at the mercy of the Federal Government. The FERS retirement system could be better.

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Travel the world for free
Learn a few new trades that are priceless
Learn to work as a team and work on leadership
Comradery: Pretty adhesive to each other. It doesn't matter how much you dislike someone you always help them out on or off duty.

    Cons

Port visits are really short and sometimes require 2 or 3 shipmates unless your an officer (Just one).
Some of the people inside are only there for the money and make your life miserable mainly because they are not focused on making things better, just focused on making easy $$$ and skylarking, making the work for the people who do want to make it work, harder on them and others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be quick to judge. Just because you dont agree with someone off the bat doesn't make them wrong. Gather the details and get the full picture. Don't becomes one of the upper management that gets to comfortable and makes rash decisions because there at the top and they must be right all the time. Seen that quite a bit. Hazing is not cool any way you do it too.
