I have been working at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

The opportunities are endless, your coworkers become family @ smaller commands, the pride you feel for serving your Country is priceless, the skills you develop through schools and on the job training will last you a lifetime and would break the bank if you paid out of pocket.

Cons

Difficult on family life in some ways.

Former Employee - Sonar Technician in San Diego, CA

I worked at US Navy as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Camaraderie, benefits, travel, development of skills, service

    Cons

Balancing priorities can be challenging, hard to have a family, the pay can seem a bit low when you are below E-5, old grumpy guys(more local leadership) who are mad at new guys(higher ranking old guys who hold power over their lives more recently) so they vent on employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the job to be done there isn't much they can do. Gov has cut much of the funds they have come to rely on. Some advice though is try to figure out some way to make use of all the food that gets thrown away on ships. That's alot of money that's going to either A) feed a family of rats in a landfill somewhere or B) bottom of the ocean.
