I worked at US Nuclear Regulatory Commission

    Pros

If you are smart and dedicated to public service, you will have a satisfying and rewarding career at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The staff are highly educated scientists, engineers, and professionals who share a common mission of protecting the Nation's safety and security in the peaceful use of nuclear materials. Excellent training opportunities are available and encouraged. Work/life balance is supported by an onsite daycare facility, an onsite gym, and a health center, Employees can take advantage of telework and flexible work schedules.

    Cons

The nature of the agency's work can be stressful due to deadlines and technical complexities. But the primary sources of unnecessary stress are managers that are ill-suited for their supervisory and management positions. As is often the case in technical organizations, some are promoted to management for their technical skills even though they are not necessarily the best suited as managers of people. To address this issue, the agency has a continuing training program to improve its managers' abilities.
