Contract Position that paid really well for working 10 hr days, six days a week. No time off, no benefits!

Minneapolis, MN

Former Employee – worked at US Postal Service

ProsThe pay is $22.15 per hour (overtime starts after 8 and double time after 10 hrs) which is above normal for other positions of its kind.

ConsFor a Transitional Employee (TE) position, the only benefit is 2 hrs vacation for every full 20 hrs worked. A TE is expected to pick up the slack of the regular employees and is normally the last one in at the end of the day. Expect to work 6 days a week, 9-10 hours a day with no scheduled days off. This is also a contract position, after 360 days a 5 day break must be taken, with no guarantees of being rehired.
Remember, due to the Union contract, the percentage of TE's are tied to the number of regular carriers; therefore when the number of regular carriers decreases due to retirements then the number of TE's needed also decreases. This is the reason, as of Feb. 2012, there is a national hiring freeze of City Carrier (TE)'s.
