Good working environment. Great people.

Terrible management. Under-qualified decision makers. A dying business without vision.

If I knew then what I know now I would never have applied.

    Pros

Sometimes the money is very very good. It provides an income of sort.

    Cons

It takes years (6 +) to make regular employee. You receive no vacation pay, sick pay, or holiday pay. You are only guaranteed to work 1 day a week but they can and will work you 6. The post office management will work you up to 39.8 hrs and then pay you only evaluated route time which can be as little as 32 hrs. It can be as high as 130+ degrees in the LLV in summer and extremely cold in the winter - with no employer accommodations. The work schedule is changed at the last minute and they can and will call you at 5:30am for a 7 a.m. job. High new higher turn-over rate. Never enough employees to cover regular carriers off time. Those who do stay the 5 plus years do so because they have invested the time and it would be a total waste if you left.

    Advice to Management

Update your equipment. Make life a little easier on your employees and you will have less turn over. Pay employees for all time expended.

    Pros

work independently. I loved being in the office with my coworkers, we helped each other if needed, then I loved being out on the road by myself and listening to my radio as I drove from box to box.

    Cons

no benefits, unless you became a career employee as others quit or retired. The hardest part of the job was not knowing how long each day would be, you worked until it was all delivered, and having to work every Saturday. You are classified as part time, but work six days a week. Our management was constantly changing.
