Former Contractor - Transitional Employee - Letter Carrier in Dallas, TX
Former Contractor - Transitional Employee - Letter Carrier in Dallas, TX

I worked at US Postal Service as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Freedom of working outside the office. Good pay and benefits for regular employees. A good group of hard working people who care about each other and the community.

Cons

Management needs a makeover. It sometimes has the feeling of a military boot camp instead of a normal company that utlizes professionalism. There isn't any accountability for when management abuses his/her "power". Pay for CCAs doing the same job(or more) as carriers, is too low

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to treat your employees with respect and they will be more productive. Low moral equals a negative work environment.

I have been working at US Postal Service full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Was good money with plenty of hours.

    Cons

Working almost every holiday. No set schedule. Expected to do more work in less time than the "regulars". Treated like second class citizens by "regulars" and abused by management. Expected to be available 7 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The union is helping kill this place. In my personal experience with the carriers union is that it protects the leaches and hates hard workers. The place as a whole breeds bad work ethic. You work harder and you just get more work. So in a day if you do a route and a half in the same time it takes someone else to do only one route your the idiot for working hard. Essentially giving something for nothing. It's a messed up system.
