Declining brand

Marketing Director (Former Employee) McLean, VA

ProsJournalists are first rate. Brand is well recognized and liked by consumers. Building is accessible and only 12 years old.

ConsGannett, the parent company, is run by bean counters. They have no interest in quality journalism or building a brand. They are focused on short term results and do not have the courage to stand up to Wall Street analysts to explain long term strategies. They relentlessly cut expenses and conduct layoffs with little effort to grow revenues.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell off the newspapers to people that want to run newspapers and practice quality journalism. Or, put Publishers in charge of management, not Finance people.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Fun and easy place to work, horrible pay and chances are you will be laid off.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at USA Today full-time

Pros: -Easy work day 9-5 ...pretty casual, take an hour lunch,… Cons: -HR is a mess, good luck if you get a raise or review. Re-structering and layoffs are constant ...minimum twice per year. When people leave… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
