I worked at USA Today full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Hard to say. Newspapers are an industry that is on it's way out.

Cons

Very little in the hard copy. I cancelled my subscription.

I have been working at USA Today as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

My immediate supervisor was very helpful and encouraging. It's a big name - great for the resume Being in the DC area is a good networking opportunity for students.

    Cons

Often felt disregarded - overall intern supervisor made it very clear that I was not his priority (despite what he said). Company seems unsure of itself. After going through a drastic rebranding last year, they're doing it again this year. It's clear there's a general lack of confidence in the brand identity paired with growing pressure from above. Additionally, there's whispers that the two towers (USA TODAY and Gannett) will eventually merge into one tower, which can only mean one thing: massive downsizing.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

If you like large bureaucratic organizations, this is the place for you.

    Cons

The newspapes is stuck in the past and, being entrenched in their old ways, finding it practically impossible to make the jump to the internet. The paper is riddled with old time thinking -- the brightest and the best have left it behind.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your asset is credible, researched journalism; make it readily available at a reasonable price.
