I worked at USA Today

Pros

Visibility and fame from working at the highest-circulation newspaper in the United States.

Cons

Incompetent leadership, micro-management, low morale, lack of financial support by leaders who are more worried about the stock price and keeping their own jobs than in supporting the newspaper's core mission.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace senior management, beginning with the CEO and EIC. Respect and appreciate your employees, many of whom are now handling double the workload for half the pay.

    I worked at USA Today

    Pros

    - A Paycheck
    - A few great people still remain
This was a great place to work in the late 80's and early '90's.

    Cons

    - Pay freezes
    - Furloughs
    - Layoffs
Over the past several years, layoffs became a regular occurrence and no one ever felt safe (nor feels safe to this day.) A series of bad decisions were made each quarter which, in turn, had more consequences. This usually meant sacrificing great employees. Unfortunately, those who remained had to take on the work of their fallen comrades. This was once a great place to work, however due to all of the cuts this company has made, it's tough to say that the pros outweigh the cons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If this company survives another year, please value the strong, few employees you do have left.
