I have been working at USAA full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

USAA is very organized and well structured. They take care of their employees very well and have high expectations of their employees. Their salaries are good, benefits are very good and perks are also good.

Cons

There are two ways to view the world...the USAA way and the wrong way. USAA has a very bad case of the Emperor's new clothes. If it has been dictated from above you had better not go against it, regardless of common sense or other justifications, lest you stunt or end your career at USAA

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen much more to the front line workers that are talking to your customers and quit relying on the consultants and ex-Bank-of-America VPs that have been hired the past few years. They are ex-BofA for a reason! They're bringing B of As greediness to USAA.

    Pros

The company actually believes the mission. The membership is great to work with and the employees are engaging.

    Cons

The company doesn't move quickly with change. Career options are very limited and there is very limited flexibility.

I worked at USAA full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

USAA respects you as an employee and your opinion matters.
They take care of their customers and you feel good at the end of the day for helping them.
You will work very hard each day with little time to relax but you are rewarded well with a nice match in your 401k and annual bonuses if the company does well.
Great work life balance. I was never asked to take work home. The only thing they asked you to do after work was charity for great causes like the Fisher House.

    Cons

The culture requires perfection so if you can't handle stress it's not the job for you. They monitor all conversations with customers and you will be coached to become better. This is actually a great aspect of the company for those who don't want to just be mediocre.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue pushing the reps to be the best. The customers and employees deserve it.
