Pros

Quite a few good people stayed with UTStarcom after their smaller companies were acquired by UTSI. So there is still a good deal of expertise within the company, although it is steadily dwindling.

Cons

This was probably always the case, but increasingly the US operations seem to have little purpose other than to put a US face on what is an overwhelmingly Chinese company. I worked closely with two companies that had been acquired. UTSI seemed to have acquired companies to collect technologies that looked good on paper, but then made little effort to maintain the companies. The result is that people left regularly and were replaced by others who were often less competent.

If you had to sum up UTSI: amateurish. Not to say there aren't any professionals there, but overall they produce lackluster results.

Advice to Senior Management

Keep a closer eye on the companies you acquire.
