Pros

great perks, discount, and not bad hours

Cons

ethics of Upper management, store policies, everyone besides top management was "part time" and benefits were too expensive. Had to work 5 days a week even as part time and spread hours out, rather than working normal 8 hour shifts over less days.

    Pros

    Great discount, Trendy work environment

    Cons

    Very unrealistic sales goals. Terrible DM and GM relationship. Turnover was Terrible bc hours where scarce, benefits were expensive, and good help was hard to find when having to put up with all the micro managing that went on. Salon managers had to do HOURS of ridiculous paper work, along with run the salon and sales floor. I do not recommend this company
    They have A LOT of growing to do...

    Talk to the sales teams , not your gms... They are the people who can tell you the real issues at hand in your locations.

    I worked at Ulta Beauty full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Aggressive company growth provides job security and investment into company.

    - Talented collection of professionals recruited from many top retail companies.

    - Younger, energetic environment. "Beauty" industry much more attractive in many ways (punn intended).

    Cons

    - High pressure from top down to maintain aggressive sales growth and stock price.

    - Top execs use 'fear' as their primary leadership style ('perform or else'), which leads to rampant "CYA" and finger-pointing culture.

    - All employees burnt out on unrealistic workloads (by design). The ones tolerating it are the newer employees still drinking the Kool-Aid. Very high turnover with ZERO work-life eventually cracks everyone.

    - Top Execs promote Churn-n-Burn mentality with workforce, rather than grow and support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    No advice, honestly. Venture Capitalists are cracking the slave whip on CEO. CEO cracks whip down on Sr. Mgmt. Etc. Etc.

    If the company sales ever stumble which forces an internal review of their practices and culture, there will be no change. But since the business model ('beauty superstore') is doing well in the market, I don't foresee that anytime soon.
