I worked at Ultra Electronics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Responsive managment
    Intelligent, young technical staff
    Casual dress
    Good benefit package

    Cons

Limited training and personal growth opportunities
    Salary isn't very competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current performance review process has vastly improved the communication between technical staff and management, but it seems like there should be a strong push to allow for specific and general technical growth. If it can be paid for by a contract that is great, but I think this is important enough that it should be an option to do this under general overhead.

I think company culture has been improving under Paul and good things are coming.

I have been working at Ultra Electronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The flexible work schedule and friendly atmosphere go a long way towards making this a good place to work. Middle managers care about the people. There have been a lot of initiatives which show that management wants to improve, even if most seem misguided and fruitless.

    Cons

For a technology company, the internal use of tech is shamefully lacking. Upper management seems out of touch with reality. Middle management is too busy with administration and business development to manage and develop subordinates. The flexible, easy-going atmosphere can be taken advantage of by some people and they don't deliver what should be expected of them. Stability of future employment is a moderate concern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest money into the infrastructure, not only hardware but also internal systems which will better enable and empower employees to do their jobs more effectively. Make better use of the systems already in place and reduce redundancy. Put more value in your employees and invest in them. Cutting a position and spreading the workload around, overtaxing others who can then not fully meet any of their responsibilities, does the opposite of saving you money in the long-run.
