Current Employee - Associate CMI Manager in Englewood Cliffs, NJ

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great place if you are in a senior position or just starting out. Great training and mentoring. Opportunity to work on world-class brands and cutting edge management best practices.

Cons

Bureaucratic style. Too process oriented. Unless you have a seat at the table, it's hard to get your voice heard. Unilever is too big which makes it slow to react to react and decisions take a long time. Not suited for professionals who prefer a fast-paced environment. Very long and odd working hours. Too much power centered in Europe which puts employees based in the US at a slight disadvantage in terms of work recognition

I worked at Unilever as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

--Summer hours (work an extra hour mon-thurs, take a halfday on friday)
    --great people
--agile workspace (can sit in different places)
--great co-op program with meaningful work and lots of exposure
--fantastic company store, especially at the corporate location
--great company vision (reducing environmental footprint by half and doubling the business by the year 2020, based on the benchmark of yr 2000)
--very focused on environmental sustainability, giving the the community/world through the business and people

    Cons

--Employees are overworked. Work-life balance encouraged, but does not translate into practice.
--for co-ops/interns, pay does not increase based on having additional work experience & school class credits.
--Large company = difficult to get things done fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more employees so that the work is more manageable for everyone. It will benefit your company. Dropping the stress levels = happier employees. People work much better together and are more productive when they aren't constantly juggling 10 different "HOT" priorities.
