Current Employee - Director in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

If you're well regarded within the company, there are great opportunities to work abroad, explore other functions and work with some amazing people.

Cons

It's getting more difficult to get those opportunities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in your people and giving them great experiences / expat opportunities etc. These are amazing for talent (and loyalty) development.

Former Employee - Staff in Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Unilever full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits (honestly I don't think I could find the same great benefits anywhere else in Singapore), great office space. The company offers/supports flexible working environment, you can work from home, but this arrangement does not fit all roles.

    Cons

The accountability issues are shocking, blurry sight on who-does-what, too many layers of stakeholders involved and decision making is extremely slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the accountability of the management/decision makers and lead by example. Delegate and give more authority to those who do things right and can make a difference, and credit him/her.

Former Employee - Sales Supervisor in Muscat (Oman)

I worked at Unilever full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A company that takes care of their employees very well, gives the exposure of a real FMCG environment where we have to fight it out to gain market shares.

    Cons

Non-Managers (C and D Grades) have no clear career growth path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need to identify performers in C and D Grades and give them the space to show their potential and a clear road map to excel. This has to be done with cross section of managers and not leave the decision to the line manager only. The Performers in every region needs to be highlighted every quarterly on a regional basis and the Top Management needs to be aware of them.
