Put People First is one of the Pillars of Unilever, unfortunately not practiced in the real work setting

No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Global company, you own managing the brand from day 1 and you make recommendations that you can see in practice immediately

Cons

NO WORK-LIFE BALANCE, especially in the personal care categories. You are expected to work constantly and there is no such thing as vacation or sick time. Takes 4-5 years to be promoted when after 2-3 years, almost all ABMs are ready to be managers. Major disconnect between Global and Regional teams

Advice to Management

Take the time to get to know your employees and put the Compass in practice. If employees felt appreciated for their 16 hour work days, then not so many people would be running out the door like they currently are

Smart people, good brands, too top heavy to provide opportunities to move up!

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are smart and the support functions - consumer research, brand finance, etc mean you can focus on marketing. 4 1/2 stars

    Cons

They keep consolidating roles at the top so that if you ever hope to move up to the top - and I just mean Director and above - you better plan on being there a LONG time! 2 stars

    Advice to Management

Provide training to everyone who manage people. The level of inconsistency and ability of people to manage other people was at times appalling.

  2. Foodservice gets no respect vs retail side of business

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of contacts made but as soon as you get to a certain level of pay you get cut for cheaper workers. So it is good for contacts

    Cons

Been here 5 years. Have had 6 bosses and have been thru 3 downsizing the company reorganizes every 5 or so months in some regards.. Be very careful sounds good but on Foodservice it is defentily a stepchild to retail Worst insurance in the industry and in my role I was told the only way to move up would be to leave. Travel 30% turned out to be 90 and I am never home almost lost family over it. Senior management changes every 5 years as they are based out of the country and they have to move back so Europe .. So no constant leadership or vison
