I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Extremely ethical, progressive, competitive pay, collegial, smart & nice people. Stellar brands!

Cons

Silos, too much reliance on broken "systems" for such things as paying vendors, filling in annual goals & objectives. There is also no on-boarding - very difficult to understand all of Unilever's complexities. Sink or swim. Some leaders constantly talk about how the company "overpays" and how some people just don't work hard enough. Nearly impossible to get rated for "great performance," even if you're killing yourself trying to do the job of a couple of people. Extremely hierarchical.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable growth environment Managerial support for career development Opportunity to work on major brands and to manage huge, complicated budgets and P&Ls Generous benefits package Flexible work environment

    Cons

Slow-moving "Process" often interferes with nimble career changes Difficult to get into marketing and brand management without an MBA The US is seen as a "training ground" for global leadership, so senior leadership is in constant flux Tendency to "buy" into categories rather than growing there leveraging internal expertise Reliance on consulting firms to provide expertise already available in-house

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Slow career progression and fixed job responsibilities stifle collaboration and growth.
