Horrible hours but a fun job

Railroad Conductor (Current Employee)
Sparks, NV

ProsGood job. You can either work a whole not or not as much at all and you still make your money. It all depends on the job you bid into.

ConsSalary, healthcare and vacations are negotiated by one of two unions. While benefits are still good they seem to be in decline. In addition the hours are horrible, you are on call 24/7. You work off of a rotating roster, you go to work with a train that you are lined up for 9 times out of 10 the time that you show going to work does not show up on time. You either go to work way early or super later. It makes it hard to adjust your sleep cycle.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the train line ups. Matching 401K or profit sharing would be a nice gesture as well.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
