Not a place if you have a family

Train Conductor (Current Employee) Saint Paul, MN

ProsA little tough to pick more than a few pros but here goes, benefits, travel, pay, location

ConsNeed to change the transfer policy from two years to a year. They don't care if you have a family, you get talked to if you layoff. Need to find a better system other than the seniority ranking so people can move up in their career field. They need to stop hiring all these new people if they have no where to put the in the service unit

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers need to come from the bottom, like start at the bottom in the department and work your way up. Just because you have a degree does not mean you know what you are doing when it comes to the railroad.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Lot of opportunity...if you reach for it

    Conductor/Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at Union Pacific full-time for more than 5 years

Pros: Good people to work around and with. Cant beat the amount of money that they pay… Cons: A lot of "oldheads" who are still stuck in the old ways of railroading, yet are unwilling to adapt to changes or even help… Advice to Senior Management: Communicate better with the workers...better communication means better production. Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
