Pros

Very friendly environment, great benefits, great internship program, beautiful building in downtown Omaha

Changes take a long time to process, many systems/interfaces are in need of a major reboot, help line is tedious and the people can be unfriendly

I worked at Union Pacific full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

U.P. has a great retirement plan if you can stay that long.

    Cons

Absolutely worst vacation benefits I have ever had at any company. No sick leave policy. If you are sick you go to work and make others sick or you take 1 of you 5 allowed vacation days. On call 24 / 7. No on- call or pager pay with that responsibility. No bonuses, no incentives. I stayed 1.5 years and realized this company provides jobs, not careers!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of employees, figure out ways to provide incentives for good work and stop treating employees like this was the best job in the world, because it is not! U.P. still has the mentality that employees should be happy to work for a railroad. Guess what, it is not 1880 any more!

    Pros

Financially strong company. There are lots of opportunity if you are willing to scarify your family for your career.

    Cons

You can forget about your family time. It's a very demanding company and prepare to sit on money pile without getting to know about your kids because you won't have time to spend time with your family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to communicate with your employees. Before you made a decision, ask workers' feedbacks?
