Union Pacific Railroad General Foreman in Colton, CA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Work is not hard or overly demanding most hourly and train crew are high school graduate with no training or college needed. The company does seem to hire more ex-serviceman to me and the work places does have a military feel to it. Management salary are very good but hourly workers wages or comparable with other industry for the work you do.

Cons

This is a 24/7 work places and it will takes a few years to get a job on the day shift as seniority rules even in management. You can forget Sunday football for a long time as well again weekend off are very hard to get. Most job are non standard work week some start on Tuesday or Wednesday so as to keep the railroad running..

Advice to Senior Management

Listen to the employees more and take heed to some of things they bring up.
