I have been working at United Airlines full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The problems we work on are very challenging
People are worldly, cultured, educated, smart
So much potential
Global

Cons

Still going through merger/consolidation pains
United and Continental cultures still purvade separately (United very analytical and programatic, Continental more laissez faire)
Some organizations can be unusually dogmatic
Flight benefits are no longer as valuable as they used to be, flights are always full

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture is still a problem and impeding progress
Lots of potential to be a great company but impeded by selected organizations (still dogmatic)
People are really good (well educated, worldly)

Our company allows ample opportunity for growth into leadership roles as leaders are commonly selected from within the company.
Our foundation is built on open, honest and direct communication. Safety is a top concern and having fun is a must!
Employees at United Airlines are co-workers but also family. We work together and ensure that everyone is part of the team.

    Cons

This is not a con for me but can be for some people: Hard work is a must. We strive to meet and exceed expectations and expect everyone on the team to do the same!

I worked at United Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Travel priviledges at leading global airline. Immediate supervisors were genuinely engaged at making the process better. The company has all the tools to become a leading force in the industry.

    Cons

It is a big organization. As such there are definitely turf wars between divisions among senior leadership. The process of integrating the legacy United and Continental operations have surfaced some major issues. With in the company the sense of urgency to complete the integration have glossed over some major issues that need to be addressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are some really talented people who are providing some common sense solutions to major issues. Listen to them.
