I have been working at United Airlines full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Leading player in industry, committed team that creates growth opportunities for rising leaders, free travel for employees, broad agreement on where we are headed, fun industry that is constantly changing

Cons

Airline business is vulnerable to external shocks (oil prices, irrational competitors, global security), still working through the challenges of a merger but culture is very positive

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The organization is working very hard to make a better experience for customers and employees. Though the work can be difficult, employees are quite positive and willling to go the extra mile to deliver on a project. It is great that business travel is supported as it gives employees the chance to meet other team members and understand more about locations they support. The leadership is very focused on the customer facing employees and really wants the new exciting culture to take hold.

    Cons

One serious national incedent or economic decline has a devastating impact on the airline industry. This creates a need for cost efficiencies that can go too far. Finance should focus on finance, technology should focus on tech and HR should focus on HR - not get involved in each others business and make things difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focusing on removing barriers for the frontline employees and we will all benefit! Make payroll systems a priority to fix so that employees can get their hands on good information and can be paid correctly.

    Pros

Currently, you can be on the 'fast' track to succeed. This company is growing, faster everyday. You are the only one holding yourself back. There are many different divisions and departments, set your course and TAKE OFF!

    Cons

Growing at this fast a pace is bound to lead to the "Peter" principle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look and listen to the folks that make things happen! Get their thoughts and ideas on money savings at their level. It will work system wide, increasing the savings!
