    Pros

The company promotes a healthy balance between work and home responsibilities.
Salaries and benefit packages are very competitive.
The company welcomes expression of new ideas and opportunities to improve.
The company has been stable since 1992 and prides itself for not needing to cut jobs.
Along with Highmark, the company offers the tools necessary for professional growth.

    Cons

The company is more reactive to the market than on the cutting edge.
Much of the company's success is very dependent upong the retention of Tricare Dental Plan.
It's difficult to shift from a production position to a professional position.
Advancement, in general, requires a lot of patience. Especially in these times.
The company is too top heavy, many vice presidents do not share the same vision which can hinder and delay company initiatives.
    Poor branding.
Despite having a very robust claims processing system, the company's technology overall is outdated and hinders performance. Many departments develop their own solutions which creates incompatability with other areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take advantage of the latest technologies to keep overhead costs low in the long run. Ensure that middle and upper management are accountable for promoting the company vision.

    Pros

Benefits and salary compare to others within the industry. Company can be a good stepping-off point for a new worker or one who is changing careers.

    Cons

Less opportunity for advancement than the company management will acknowledge. Competence of senior management at times is questionable - horrible communications between management and workers, and non-existant between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

New President is still trying to get a feel for the Company - and absent most of the time due to responsibility for a second company - too much is left to Vice Presidents, many of questionable ability who are more concerned with protecting their own terf than advancing the Company as a whole. Would do well to take a close look at the organizational structure and workflow processes, and occassionally leave the ivory tower. Company is missing the boat with use of technology - systems are so obsolete and ineffectively managed that they hinder rather than enhance productivity. Although longevity of can be a good thing, it is often given too much weight in promotions.
