I have been working at United States Department of Energy full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and salary for public sector work. Very steep learning curve. Relatively breezy compared to private sector, but maybe because the work is more interesting. Pretty open dialogue in Strategic Programs Office.

    Cons

Around half the time dealing with information requests and interagency BS as well as bureaucratic process. It seems like half the people come here to settle down. There are some go-getters though. Rather stale cultural environment.

I worked at United States Department of Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits were good, such as education reimbursement, health, dental, etc.

    Cons

Resistent to change, and slow to position employees internally. Hiring new employees was also pretty slow which lead to increased work loads and little acknowledgement or compensation changes.
