I have been working at UnitedHealth Group

Pros

Friendly environment that encourages self growth and self motivation. The goals set by management are very reasonable and any obstacles are easily removed.

Cons

At this time, we're not able to work from home. However, there is a pilot going on so it may happen at some point.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing, it's working wonderfully! The atmosphere at work is very open and uplifting. The management team is fun to work for and leaves you feeling excited to be at work every day.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Generous PTO, but you will need it to stay sane
    Great Employee Stock Purchase Program
Work from home two days a week

    Cons

Worst health care insurance benefits I've seen, ($1,500 co-insurance per year)
Hostile work environment unless you are in the clique'
Queen Bee Syndrome is rampid in middle and upper management
Work load is overwhelming, dictated by highly unorganized managers
Work is mind numbing, and boring; coding robot; query slave. Prepare to be dumbed down.
Unfair treatment by managers between team members.
Manager lies to you and about you to his upper managers.
'Growth' is touted, but there is a freeze on hiring and travel. Growth is likely touted to keep you there.
Upper management works from home or MN and is completely out of touch and dependent on what is reported to them by onsite managers.
Loads of gossip, jealousy and calumny.
Unskilled people promoted into management positions simply because they have friends.
Lots of good qualified people either laid off or fired since aquisition.
    Highly unprofessional.
UHG/Ingenix/OptumInsight ran AIM Healthcare into the ground
    Company seemingly sinking fast.
I'm not a disgruntled employee, just an honest evaluation.

    I worked at UnitedHealth Group

    Pros

good knowledable people who work hard to deliver value to customers. There is an effort to change some of the culture and as it improves so will the company.

    Cons

Too much emphasis on the bottom line. There is poor communication from top down. People want to be able to tie the value they deliver to customers to their own work. This requires some level of recognition for a job well done. This does not happen.
