Pros

You meet some nice people.

Cons

1600 medical ded, no sick time, unable to get time off especially a Monday or a Friday. They don't care enough about customers, it all about numbers. They force you to rush people on the phone and leave out of lack of info to get numbers. Horrible company to work and a high turnover rate. System is always going down and it still counts against you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your employees, give sick time people do get sick, you are a health insurance company and get rid of high ded.

    Pros

Open communications, several areas for career development opportunities, very fast growing market

    Cons

Many teams operating by telecommuting with team members spread throughout the country, can be difficult for people younger in their career as there is a lot of independence, especially within the consulting organization. Lack of good end-user market expertise in product development; many programs sold with minimal in-depth user support.

    Solidify departments

Current Employee - Project Manager in Santa Ana, CA

    Pros

-Part of UHG, with access to lots of resources. If you need specific software or hardware or support, you just have to get the appropriate approvals and wait a few weeks... but you'll get what you need.
    -Huge network of 80,000+ people
-Hundreds of open jobs to make a lateral or upward move to
    -Fortune 50 company
-23 days of paid time off per year for most positions. That does include all sick time, however.

    Cons

    -Lots of red tape
-Not enough communication at the appropriate level. Everything is at a very high level
-Working extremely hard will rarely get you more than a pat on the back, if that
-Some employees are actively disengaged as a result of senior management turnover
-For an insurance company, you would think their benefits would be better, but they are about average or below (especially vision coverage)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Managers should follow the teachings they receive at various trainings instead of paying them lip service and then throwing those lessons out the window as deadlines approach
-With so much churn in senior leadership, it's important to keep an open line of communication to everyone, even the entry-level associate
-Further, to instill trust in the new leaders, have them partner with ones that remained through the change and use them as an "anchor" for employees to believe in.
-Don't say, "No, I can't." Say, "Yes, I can if..."
