    Pros

    Location,Pay is fair, Great people to work with. Plenty chances for lateral moves.

    Cons

    Micromanagement, Middle and firstline management, no compassion for hard workers.

    Appreciate working employees. Happy workers are more productive!!

    I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time

    Pros

    - Our United Culture (The Way Forward) is starting to gain traction and change behavior.
    - Reorg into UnitedHealthcare and Optum (benefits businesses, service businesses) means the silos are going away.

    Cons

    - Before joining the company I knew what bullying, bias and hostile-work-environment were from an intellectual and common sense perspective. Now I know from firsthand experience. If it's rotten up at the top of your part of the org chart, the bullying will not stop.
    - Human Capital (nee Human Resources) is centralized. For the average employee, there is no one to go to on site. You have to call an 800 number.On site Human Capital Partners focus on and serve senior leaders and executives.
    - A slice of the population talks Our United Culture, but, doesn't walk it. In practical terms these people will use cultural concepts like "assume positive intent" to avoid being responsible for bad behavior and, once again, if things are rotten up at the top of the org chart, there's nothing that can be done.
    - Widespread layoffs every several years - right now, in fact (June 2012).
    - For many, work/life balance does not exist (despite lip service). The hours can be brutal.
    - There is a general understanding that too often you have to leave to move up. In other words, far too little promotion from within; far too much promoting from the outside.
    - The old addage that you work (about) 2 years at UnitedHealthcare and then go get the job you really want and are qualified for still holds.
