Pros

Plenty of support while you get up to speed on company/industry knowledge. Genuinely feels like a team environment. Colleagues are personable and easy to get along with.

Cons

Workload can fluctuate quickly, making work / life balance challenging. Benefits and pay are just so-so; think twice if you are looking to maximize your financial benefit (esp. on a $ per hour basis).

Advice to Management

You've succeeded in building an engaged, motivated team who genuinely support the company objectives and take a personal stake. The flip side is that when pay or promotion policies make feel people slighted, that gets taken personally too. Framing company priorities in terms of all stakeholders (and not just customers + owners) would do much to generate loyalty.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

UHG offers a very competitive benefits package, and in certain offices very nice and handy amenities. Attention is given to work/ life balance. Some managers really go out of their way for you to assist you. You do get enough free time to make some cool projects on your own at times.

    Cons

It is a large organization. Some managers may not even know what you do. Look up "matrix organization" to learn what you will be in for. There can be very little accountability and most decisions will end up being decided through politics. Network with leaders, look for movers and shakers, or count on your career stagnating.

    Advice to Management

The thick layer of middle managers creates a recipe for lack of accountability and enormous redundancy. Way too many planners and not enough doers. Unfortunately cutting the ranks of PMs would cause a revolt.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is good, you get a lot of PTO days and the company is good about letting you use them. There is room for advancement if you work hard. Most of the people you work with are competent and easy to get along with. They are really big on community involvement and will provide money to charities in your name if you volunteer enough hours with them.

    Cons

There is a huge disconnect between senior management and the majority of employees. They have unrealistic goals and don't provide enough resources to meet them. Medical benefits are pretty lousy for being the largest insurance company in the US
