I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

I am allowed to telecommute, which is a wonderful perk, and the hours are definitely flexible. Stock plan is the standard 15% lower than the lower of the buy/sell, so you can't lose on it, and the benefits are extremely substantive.

Cons

United is the classic corporate atmosphere for a very large company: you are just a cog in the machine and if you don't squeak very loudly, you will never be given special consideration. The company basically encourages you to either come in at a very high salary for what you do, or else leave and come back after getting a salary boost elsewhere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

When a team has been showing millions in savings verified by black-belts and reporting, make sure that the rewards are in keeping with the success. A 2% raise for saving the company millions of dollars multiple years running is a slap in the face.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company is one of the biggest insurance firms in US. It is avery solid and stable place to work in.
    Life work balance
    Opportunity to learn healthcare industry
    Flexible schedule

    Cons

Too many levels of management. The company is so big, that sometimes the lack of proper communication between different departments causes inefficiencies. The same work may be duplicated. There is competition between departments.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Great use of current and cutting edge technology.
    - Overall an exceptionally run company.
    - Great place for some techonologists, primarily the non-skilled straight out of college types. Build-up your resume and get the heck out.

    Cons

    - Your manager will make or break you, if you don't get along or disagree with your manager you best leave now.
    - They have great work from home policies but as a result they don't provide for a good work/life balance.
    - They use a managed services business model which means they can hire cheap non-skilled labor and lay you off once you become too expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I love your vision and foresight but your managers have too much power and, as a consequence, they do your company no good. Reign them in!
