Pros

Parent company, UnitedHealth Group, is strong. They bring in a lot of business, and OptumRx implements the pharmacy benefits. UHG is on the forefront on healthcare and supports lots of businesses.
Fun, caring people to work with. There is a commitment to community service, giving, etc.
The annual surveys to gauge employee satisfaction are taken very seriously and things do actually get follow up upon. It isn't just lip service-- they care about employee satisfaction.
New CEO is great

Cons

Lots of inefficient processes, lack of commitment to improve broken areas. For as big as they are, the systems don't work well. This could change with the new CEO.
For being a part of UHG business, this segment gets treated the worst from the other businesses.

Advice to Management

Focus less on acquiring new members and fix the broken processes and systems.
There should be better synergy between the segments--OptumRx is clearly the hated stepchild of the businesses.

    Pros

Upper management is always eager to make you feel like your contributions are valued, they want to hear new ideas and they will dangle that string for quite awhile.... The regular employees, for the most part, truly believe they are helping others and want to do a good job.

    Cons

Upper leadership have many opposing agendas going and sadly, good managers and staff get caught in the net when someone needs to take the "fall". Major layoffs occur on schedule about 3-4 weeks before every shareholder meeting and rarely is upper management affected. Whistleblowers are banned from working there again rather than appreciated for bringing serious issues to their attention.

    Advice to Management

    Get a conscience.

    Pros

Easy job. Nice people work there. The management is fine. The hours were fine. I did not mind the job.

    Cons

Low hourly pay for the work you do and hardly any commission and no health benefits. That was my only issue working there is not enough money and no benefits. Not guaranteed 40 hours a week. If phones slow they would send you home after 4 hours. Had to use your PTO time to cover when they sent you home early.

    Advice to Management

Pay more commission and add health benefits
