I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Parent company, UnitedHealth Group, is strong. They bring in a lot of business, and OptumRx implements the pharmacy benefits. UHG is on the forefront on healthcare and supports lots of businesses.
Fun, caring people to work with. There is a commitment to community service, giving, etc.
The annual surveys to gauge employee satisfaction are taken very seriously and things do actually get follow up upon. It isn't just lip service-- they care about employee satisfaction.
    New CEO is great

    Cons

Lots of inefficient processes, lack of commitment to improve broken areas. For as big as they are, the systems don't work well. This could change with the new CEO.
For being a part of UHG business, this segment gets treated the worst from the other businesses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on acquiring new members and fix the broken processes and systems.
There should be better synergy between the segments--OptumRx is clearly the hated stepchild of the businesses.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free soda while in Newtown Square for training.

    Cons

No job security. EHR began to offshore the nurse letter coordinator and appeals positions last year. Now they are moving the Physician Advisor positions and the Clinical Support team. EHR salaries are far below market - I have never met anyone, even a receptionist, who did not take a pay cut to work at EHR. Management still believes that people 'should be lucky' to have a job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

News flash - the economy isn't as bad as you think.

    Disapproves of CEO
