Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

Pros

It's satisfying to impact the quality of a person's care.

Cons

Inept management that is demeaning to many highly educated RNs. Dishonest managers who are apparently placed in their positions not due to knowledge or skill, but their ability to brown nose those above them.

Advice to Management

Treat your nurses like you do any other professional with the degree of education within your organization. Do not micro-manage high performers. Do not try to motivate with childish motivators. If you value what we do, give us bonuses. You sure get them. Stop promising your clients more than we can provide, forcing the nurses into working without lunches or breaks, as though we are factory workers. Do SOMETHING about retention. You are hemorrhaging case managers because of the toxic environment.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work with some very bright and talented people that make the best of a horrible environment.

    Cons

The new Military & Veterans business was very poorly implemented and is not improving. Referral Management Specialists are required to work at least 14 hours of OT every week and this has been going on for 6 months - no end in sight. Every change is a bandaid that creates more problems. It's a mess and will not improve anytime soon.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring so many ex-military people. Get some people with real business management experience and start from scratch. The current system is so poor it cannot be fixed.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many Department offer work from home positions after 6 months and the company does offer many great discounts on things like cell phone providers sams club, Gmac , Ford.

    Cons

They will tell you there is lots of room for growth and that is a bold face lie. It is not what you know it is who you know and if you are a brown noser. The Company offers a tution reimbursment program and it is a joke you are more likely to win the lottery then get money from this company. The benefits are ao bad and expensive you are better off puying your own.

    Advice to Management

Improve benefits and salaries. Also many mangers lack social skills. Just because you are a manager does not mean you are god and better than others. All managers should have to take People skill training.
