UnitedHealth Group treats you like a number, a terrible number that can be easily discarded.

Pros

There is a lot of PTO available to employees so you are able to take time off if your department policy does not prevent you from taking it.

Cons

The benefits are completely subpar. Medical insurance with super high deductibles and high premiums. When you see the testimonials about the insurance exchange rates, you wish you were able to purchase any of the policies there. When you do actually have a valid claim, they will try everything in their power to deny it and you will have to fight tooth and nail to get them to pay what is right up to and including filing complaints with the state. They do not care. When I resigned, they did not pay me my last check and gave no reason other than they would investigate even though they were in violation of state law. They didn't care. You may like your team or your department but the operations of the company is terrible. No one will give HRDirect glowing reviews.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the people that actually do their jobs instead of worrying about yourselves. Quit over promising shareholders and then cutting the work force, eventually the shareholders are going to realize you have nothing left to give them.

    Pros

    Open to new ideas
Encourages asking questions and questioning processes
Shared learning and process improvement encouraged
    Frequent Team Building activities

    Cons

Verbally emphasize quality over quantity, subliminally emphasize quantity above all else
Encourages employees to be vocal in their ideas, but throws heaps of red tape at ideas when they are voiced.
Hesitant to change if it has any possible negative effect on employee production
Recognition and employee metrics systems set up so that you're either earning awards for working above and beyond, or you're at risk for termination.
Promises excellent opportunities for advancement, fails to deliver on that promise.
Suggests employees grow their skill set to make themselves more valuable resources, then offers no avenues for them to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your employees' ideas, and give them recognition for them.
Delegate better. Your employees will work harder and better if they aren't told to stay in production for 90% of their day, and they will be able to take care of back burner tasks with that extra time.
React appropriately to changes in inventory. Throwing whole teams at each swell in inventory is a poor use of resources.
