The good managers are good but the bad ones are horrific

    I worked at UnitedHealth Group

    Pros

I'm really proud of some of the projects I worked on and I met some great people. During my tenure, I saved UHG an average of 16 million a year. At a company this size, I really felt that I could make a difference.

    Cons

I was in IT and got repeated support calls on my honeymoon. I also had a manager cancel my vacation one year. (I has already paid for my trip.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to learn to respect boundaries. It is simply inappropriate to repeatedly call someone on vacation or cancel vacations.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group

    Pros

For me it was the ability to work in a home-based (telecommuting) position.
Being part of a large company probably helps for benefits.

    Cons

Large company structure--and your place in it--is difficult to understand. My company is owned by a company that is owned by UHG.
Also, surprisingly, the health benefits aren't great--but premiums are low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I find the management at UHG extremely organized.
Consider how some budget decisions can trickle down to ultimately reduce productivity.
