I have been working at Universal Music UK

    Pros

It's FUN. Working in the music industry will not make you millions but going to award shows, concerts and meeting your favourite artists is priceless. Everyday is different. The hours are flexible. If the company wants you, they will create a job for you!

    Cons

Big pond, small fish. It's who you know and who owes you favours. No job security due to the industry constantly changing. Poor pay and opportunities are scarce for growth and rewards. The music is diverse but the money and power behind it isn't. Poor representation of women, ethnic minorities and disabled people throughout it's ranks, especially at the top level. 60% of the workforce are temps or freelancers with no benefits. Women are always hired as entry level PA's. The atmosphere is becoming corporate but still using old tricks in a new business world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR needs to be more active in their attitude towards equality and diversity when hiring staff or else how will the company ever be able to see things from a different point of view?

I worked at Universal Music UK full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good hours, sociable and occasional celeb spotting in the cafe downstairs. The ability to mix with senior staff is encouraged.

    Cons

Poor pay due to the uncertainty of the industry's future. More work experience postions than fully paid ones. Opportunities are limited and progression is slow depending on the sector you're in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would like to see progression to higher level positions become easier and pay needs to increase for lower level positions if the company wishes to have long term loyal employees. Sticking to old business model rather than trying to invent a new model that fits with the digital age.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
