I have been working at University of Alberta full-time (more than a year)

Pros

-Stipend provided is enough for a single grad student to get by living alone
-Really supportive supervisors
-Huge network with industry

Cons

-Putting a limit on the maximum stipend you can receive (some professors want to pay the student more but are limited by departmental guidelines to ensure fairness)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop increasing tuition due to "market modifiers"

I worked at University of Alberta (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours. Friendly working environment. It is a good place to consolidate and expand your knowledge and research skills.

    Cons

Small city and winter is too long. The economy mainly depends on the oil and mining industry, not many career opportunities (especially research opportunities) in the neighborhood for graduates in other majors.

I have been working at University of Alberta full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of new buildings now at the University of Alberta these days, especially medicine and science-wise. I am actually surprised to see this kind of investment in the bricks and mortar. The institution wasn't exactly known for being in modernity (and not just structurally) and always felt like a few beautiful original buildings mixed with the advances in bureaucratic architecture of the 70s and 80s.

    Cons

Union control. A good school that punches above its weight and looks better than it ever has.
